Reasons Why You Should Train With Kettlebells

Through the many years, I’ve worked as a personal trainer, helping people to reach weight loss goals and achieve the bodies of their dreams, there have been many fads. Despite what many may feel though, I have never seen kettlebells as being one of those flash-in-the-pan fads. They do look very odd but looks can be deceiving and in the following post I want to show the real benefits and reasons why you should train with kettlebells.

Builds Up Your Gripping Strength and Forearms

You’ll notice if you’ve ever picked one up or looked at one up closely that the handle on a kettlebell is much thicker than that of a dumbbell or barbell. This makes kettlebells great if you are trying to improve your grip while increasing your forearm strength. Not only do you need to work your wrist to maintain a firm grip on a kettlebell but as the centre of gravity of the kettlebell is moving, and you try to control it, simple grip training transforms into a mixture of static and dynamic muscular contractions.

Enables You to Enjoy an Effective Workout in a Smaller Space

Unlike other forms of weight and strength training and the machines and tools you need to perform them, kettlebells have a relatively small footprint. They don’t take up too much floor space at all. As most of the kettlebell exercises are very contained too, you don’t need as large an area to work out as you would.

Enhances Your Cardio-Respiratory Fitness

You will find that many exercises involving kettlebells consist of your arms positioned over your head. This means that the muscles that have responsibility for aiding your breathing are being worked. Therefore, they can’t help with your breathing. As a result, the muscles that have the most responsibility when it comes to breathing are pushed to have an even bigger role in your cardiovascular fitness.

Increases Your Power Output Level

Perhaps one of the biggest and best reasons why you should start training with kettlebells is the fact it can greatly increase your power endurance. This is your body’s ability to produce specific movement for a longer length of time. Not to be confused with strength endurance, which is the ability to produce force for a longer length of time.

With power endurance, another time component is added, and therefore, this is your body’s ability to maintain continued fast contractions of your muscles for longer periods. While both are important, power endurance is the one that seems to determine who is the winner when participating in sport. If you are looking to tone your muscles and improve your conditioning or simply want to lose a lot of weight, power endurance training is also incredibly effective for these gaols.

No Excuses to Miss a Workout

We know how busy life can be in our modern life. If you struggle sometimes to keep to a workout schedule because there is a lot of setup and time spent adjusting settings and prepping equipment, you should definitely consider kettlebells. With kettlebells, it’s all relatively simple – to get started. You don’t even need to be in a specific place, you can work out indoors, outdoors, at the beach or even the local park. This means you will never have an excuse again for missing out on a workout.
